We acknowledge that true peace is more than the absence of armed conflict. Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself, and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflict is resolved through dialogue, people's rights are respected, and their voices are heard. This is our goal.
RecipeForPeaceNow is committed to improving the lives of every person. Through outreach and advocacy, we can make a difference. We regularly meet with government officials, attend hearings, hold conferences, mediate disputes, and support a vision of hope. We have been successful in advocating for improvements in our global as well as our local communities, so that together we can build a better world for ourselves, and our children.
Good people will always respectfully disagree. The goal is not to decide who is "right", but to learn with an open mind, to consider new solutions to old problems, and to become engaged in helping our world confront its challenges more prudently.
There is power in what an individual, a group, a community can do regardless of the scale of the issues. The Human Voice is under-utilized. It matters to reach-out. Use your voice not just at the table, but to bring others to the table. Never underestimate the power of a shared story, a shared meal, a shared goal. All problems are solvable. Mother Teresa summed it up: "I can do what you can't do, you can do what I can't do, together we can do great things."
As globalization shrinks our economic world, cultural pre-dispositions emerge, creating fervent nationalism, which makes peaceful co-existence more challenging. People become fearful that their distinctive cultural traditions, religious rituals, long-held family values, and national pride will become assimilated. This fear encourages terrorism and conflict.
Respectful people-to-people interaction is the solution. Past history informs the present day, which becomes tomorrow's history. Fear must be replaced with understanding.
The RecipeForPeaceNow book is a guide for roundtable symposiums that combine practical experience, open dialogue, and shared cuisine. Collected over more than twenty years of practical application, the plethora of quotes, paradigms, insights, and recipes have been carefully selected and formulated to encourage non-adversarial engagement while refining overarching group goals in an atmosphere of good food, good discussion, and good companionship.
The ultimate goal is person-to-person connection. Eat, talk, laugh, and get to know someone outside your "comfort zone". Remember, the most important ingredient is: You.
